# What are captcha services?

When using websites, you might notice a captcha pops up. Captchas are designed to prevent bots like Versatile, this can be an issue as it is difficult for bots to solve captchas in general. While it is possible to solve the captcha using an AI, the AI would need constant updating, a powerful PC and will not work with new captchas.

To solve this issue, Versatile uses captcha services. Captchas are designed to prevent bots, however they can still be solved by a human. A captcha service pays a worker in a 3rd world country to solve the captcha for you, this allows Versatile to handle tasks that require a captcha without the use of an AI.

There are a few disadvantages to this technique however, you must pay per captcha solved. The rate can vary from $2 per 1000 captchas to up to $4 per 1000 captchas. If you are using Anti-captcha, you'll need to pay even if workers fail to solve the captcha.

On top of this, captcha solving is slow. On average, it takes a worker 25s to solve a single Funcaptcha. To get around this, Versatile gets a captcha service to solve multiple captchas at the same time with different workers. However, functions requiring a captcha will never be as fast as tools not requiring a captcha.
